Ah, aggressor's" guerrilla force, made me smile as I was in a "aggressor's"
guerrilla force" in 1964 at Las Pugas with 2/7. We did the same against the
5th Marines when they came ashore. I believe there was a movie made dealing
with our escapades in 1967 with Lee Marvin as the umpire when a general is
captured. We just captured the Command Group of the 5th Marines. Pissed them
off too. Yours made me smile (the last picture in the 1965 bunch.
I believe we moved into Qui Nhon as you pulled out. Nice place but really
sucked when hot and sucked even more when it began to rain in Sept/Oct.
I was at the airstrip in QuiNhon in August when you were pulling Starlite.
I remember hearing on of yours trying to get through and came up and asked
if I could be of assistance and relayed a message for him.
2/7 moved to ChuLai in Nov and I remember being part of the 2/7 Tactical
Air Control Party that walked over to 3/7 hqts. about Thanksgiving, right
before Operation Harvest Moon. Remember it, as we were to go with 3/7 on
their little diddy-bop but at the last hour weren't needed. We sat outside
of your mess tent and at turkey in the rain -- Happy Thanksgiving -- think
of it every Thanksgiving.
The following month I was wounded on Operation Harvest Moon and partner killed.
Lots of good people don't have Thanksgiving anymore so we should be even
more grateful. If you ever get to Wisconsin look up my memorial park in
Neillsville (center of state). It's the most beatiful memorial park dedicated
to 20th Century veterans in the world. www.thehighground.org.
