Comments:
Fred Wilson and I were gunners who were both wounded in an ambush the night of 12/27/68. I,ll contact Rip and ask him if he wants to be listed. Two kia's not listed are Lt. James Rushing, a former 1st platoon Platoon Commander and Cpl Claude Caprarro one of the finest men and leaders I have ever known. You can add the name of Mike Morphis from Boco Ratan Florida to your list. I have'nt seen or talked to Mike since I left Nam but is a name I remember. Also I believe the gunner who replaced me was named Micael Lee. I'm not positive on the name but pretty ure. If any more names come to mind I'll let you know. Regards, Jim Pappas

Comments:
The first Kilo Company to land in Viet Nam originally started out as B Company 3/1/1 stationed at Camp Pendelton, Calif. We landed for Operation Starlight as Kilo 3/7. During our tour in Nam, Kilo took many casualities. Most of them were WIA's due to booby traps and small arms fire. In addition, we suffered 10 KIA's. I was the 3rd. squad leader in the 3rd platoon. My nickname was TEX, probably due to the fact I was from Texas. I was wounded on 27 Dec 1965 when I stepped on a Punji stake with my right foot. Damn that hurt. As far as wounds go, I was lucky that it was as minor as it was. Many weren't as lucky. It layed me up for about two weeks and then it was back to work. At the end of my 13 month tour, I extended an additional 6 months for I Corp Duty. I was assigned to Hoi An where I was NCOIC of a Security Det. consisting of about 20 Marines. We provided security for of all things a compound of Army Advisors. To this day, I still haven't figured that one out. After that tour, it was back to the world and civilian life.
